Symbol of Pentecost

Pentecost comes from the Greek pentekoste, which means "fiftieth". If refers to the Jewish Feast of Weeks, which Greek-speaking Jews called the Day of Pentecost (Acts 21:1). Early Christians also used the term Pentecost to refer to the Great Fifty Days as a season. It is the most appropriate time for baptisms, confirmation and congregational reaffirmation for the Baptismal Covenant.

The liturgical colour for this season is red which symbolises the fire of the Holy Spirit and the blood of the martyrs which is the seed of the Church.
