St Luke's Eldercare - Golden Years Centre (GYC)

This is a ministry supported by Wesley Methodist church.

The  St Luke's Golden Years Centre at Blk 831 Hougang Central, #01-502, Centre is a day care centre for elderly, providing appropriate eldercare services to families who require assistance to take care of their elderly relatives, while they are at work.
 
It was originally known as Golden Years Fellowship (GYF) and was started by a member of Wesley Methodist Church (WMC) with several others from our church.  It operated as a social day care centre for the elderly and received funding from the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the National Council of Social Services (NCSS). However, as more and more was demanded in terms of statistical reporting and programme evaluation by funding agencies, GYF sought help from WMC to seek a partner who would be better equipped to sustain GYF. Early 2009, the partnership between St Luke's Eldercare (SLEC), WMC and GYC was formed and SLEC now manages GYF - hence the new name, SLEC/Golden Years Centre (GYC) and became part of the SLEC "chain" of eldercare centres all over Singapore.  Website  : http://www.slec.org.sg/
 
One of WMC and GYF responsibilities as partners is to help recruit and deploy volunteers to support the staff at SLEC/GYC and to help provide spiritual and outreach support for the clients.  When invited by the Centre, Befriender Outreach Programme (BOP) agreed to organise a regular group to visit and befriend the clients at SLEC/GYC.
 
BOP Volunteers have been involved in reaching out to befriend the elderly at the St Luke's Golden Years Centre (Blk 831 Hougang Central, #01-502)  since 19 Oct 2009.  They visit the centre twice a month on every 2nd and 4th Monday of the month from 2 to 4 pm.
